Level 3 Communications
Background
Level 3 Communications is an international communications company based out of Broomfield, Colorado. The company contracted EC Coatings to improve the condition of their cooling equipment. Testing was performed on one of their dry coolers onsite.
The Solution: HVAC Armor Coil Protection & Increased Efficiency (DX)
In an effort to rejuvenate the equipment, HVAC Armor DX restores deteriorated aluminum, which greatly improves heat transfer. The product is applied to the entire coil and cabinet surfaces and is UV resistant to further prevent corrosion. The coating is also hydrophobic to prevent the build-up of dust and mold, and allows for easy cleaning.
The benefits of HVAC Armor include the following:
- Aluminum pigmentation for heat conductivity
- Single coat application
- Wide application temperature
- Operating temperature (-60 ˚F to 450 ˚F)
- 100% penetration due to high air volumes
- Excellent UV resistance and adhesion
- Thin layer to minimize pressure drop
- Filling and sealing fin-tube spacing
- High chemical resistance
- Manufactured in United States
Results
The coolers performance is evaluated pre and post renovation. Temperature recorders are used on both sides of the cooling coils to record the difference in temperature. From the power drawn and heat transfer, the condensers Coefficient of Performance (COP) is calculated. Results show an increase in COP by 7.0%.
